Crown Green Bowling

Jack was an accomplished crown green bowler for over 70 years having being taught by his Dad William when he was young.(he still had his dads bowls)He played for Cobridge Park,Wolstanton Park and Wolstanton Workingmens Club in all the various leagues in the North Staffs / South Cheshire area(Potteries and District). In the 2012 season at the age of 86 he played an amazing 64 times for Wolstanton Working Mens Club, this despite having MND(which hadn't being diagnosed at the time) During one such game (as told to us by his bowling colleagues)Jack was playing a young girl and trailing 9-0. The girl was then heard to say to team mates at the green side "i'm playing an old man" -Jack heard this and exclaimed to his teamates "what did she just say!" The girl never scored again and Jack ran out a 21-9 winner -as he left the green Jack was heard to say "thats what an old man can do" A lesson for us all - age is but a number and does not effect your intellect or ability, have respect for your fellow sporting colleagues and your elders. Jack was a team player and understood the clear values and principles in a game where every chalk (point)counted: Be available for selection,If selected play to your best,be sporting and play within the rules,be gracious in defeat, getting to 21 first and winning was always the icing on the cake.
